Join us in western Ireland for an opportunity to expand your personal vision, make new friends and experience a very special place through new eyes, with the guidance of experienced photo leaders. Karen and Joel have been working in the photographic field for over 35 years and are both accomplished professional photographers. Karen is a skilled and sensitive photographic artist and educator and during our tour will share ideas and knowledge to help you create great travel photographs, whether you are using a DSLR or an iPhone! Joel is an expert in the digital imaging world and has done photographic printing for some of the most notable names in fine art photography. He will share his knowledge of both the technical and creative aspects of the photographic medium.

Photographic images are about our relationship to places we visit, people we meet along the way, and the emotion that is stirred within us from our experiences. What the camera does best is reveal and interpret our world, which leads directly to the discovery of parts of ourselves that have long been shut away. Developing our ability to see opens new doors and leads us down new and exciting pathways.

Ireland -- a place of remarkable light, rugged natural beauty, and warm people eager to share their rich heritage of music, folklore, literature, and history. Karen has been leading photo tours to Ireland since 1998. She has an affinity with the local people, their culture, and enjoys sharing her favorite locations with tour participants.

Our itinerary is set in the unspoiled villages, rugged ancient abbeys, broad peat lowlands and the dramatic coastline of Western Ireland. The soft pastel shades of the mountains and clouds appeal to the artist and the photographer. These natural landscapes along with the friendly people, render this Isle a place of inspirational beauty.

Our base is County Mayo, in the west of Ireland. From here, we travel through the county, south to Connemara and north to Achill Island. Days are spent photographing in a few of our favorite spots. During the last two days of the tour we will travel south through County Clare to the quaint town of Ennis. There will be photographic opportunities along the dramatic coastline, in small fishing villages and in this riverside town with colorful storefronts and narrow cobblestone streets.

Your home away from home in County Mayo is a lovely hotel on the Quay (harbor) of Westport. It is walking distance to the quaint town center, with its many shops and pubs of. You will enjoy traditional Irish breakfasts and dinners during your stay. Lunch will be at various restaurants and pubs, or we can stop in town and have a picnic lunch wrapped for our daily excursions in the field. Transportation is provided in a roomy tour van, which is large enough for both the group and equipment.
