Focus Ranch, a real working cattle ranch, is located on the western Colorado and Wyoming border in a section of the Northern Rocky Mountains about 50 miles northwest of Steamboat Springs. The ranch headquarters are nestled in the Upper Little Snake River Valley, surrounded by the peaks of the Sierra Madre Mountain range. Early summer is a beautiful time at the ranch. Landscapes are lush green, punctuated by seasonal flowers -- Lupine, Indian Paintbrush, Mules Ears, to name a few. The Little Snake River rapidly flows, breaking the stillness of the ranch.

This spectacular ranch location lends itself perfectly to the “focus” of our workshop, which is to become more aware of your unique way of seeing the world and yourself. You will receive both group and individual instuction in the field and the classroom. Additionally, Karen will suggest specific visual exercises that will challenge you to try new and fun techniques with your camera that will enrich your creative spirit.

In addition to the photography sessions, you'll enjoy delicious meals, comfortable lodging and opportunities to participate in various optional activities, including horseback riding and hiking. The natural beauty of the area, old ranch buildings, cows and their calves, other ranch animals, wildlife and off-ranch excursions all offer unlimited photographic inspiration. It is these sights and many more that we invite you to experience through the lens of your camera as well as during the available ranch activities.

The workshop is open to all skill levels, from more casual to advanced photographers hoping to expand their vision. Participants need to be comfortable with, at minimum, the basic operation of their cameras and have an understanding of the relationship between ISO, aperture and shutter speed settings, as you will be working mostly on the development of personal vision. Additionally, Karen will be offering OPTIONAL Creative iPhoneography sessions for participants with an iPhone or iPad. What fun!

In the least it is ironic that this workshop is being offered by Focus Adventures at Focus Ranch. As the owner of Focus Adventures, I often wondered about Focus Ranch, as I occasionally redirected phone calls to those who could not locate the ranch's phone number and called us instead. In 2006 I was introduced to Maureen and Terry Reidy, and their fabulous ranch. It didn’t take long to realize that Focus Ranch would provide the perfect setting for another of our photo programs -- and we were not disappointed. I hope you will join us in 2015 for an inspirational, educational and fun week at Focus Ranch!
